FAQ
1. What ages do you work with?
We offer art and play-based sessions for people of all ages—from toddlers to adults.
2. Do you only work with children who have developmental differences?
Not at all. While we often support children with diverse developmental profiles, our sessions are designed for everyone. The open-ended, process-based approach is beneficial for anyone looking to explore creativity, emotional expression or regulation through art and play.
3. What do you mean by “Reggio-inspired”?
This means we follow the child’s lead, using open-ended materials and creating environments that encourage exploration, independence and creativity. There are no templates or step-by-step instructions—just an invitation to wonder, question and create freely.
4. What does a typical private art session look like?
Each session is customized, but generally includes a warm welcome, time to explore different materials (like clay, wire, paint, or charcoal) and space for reflection or storytelling through art. Sessions are calm, playful and guided gently to meet each individual’s needs.
5. Do you provide therapy?
We do not offer therapy in the traditional clinical sense. However, many families find our sessions to be therapeutic. Purple Finch Studio offers a supportive, creative space that complements other therapies and helps children grow in confidence, emotional regulation and self-expression.
6. Can you come to my home or school?
Yes! Purple Finch is a mobile studio. We offer home visits, classroom consultations and community-based sessions depending on location and availability.
7. What’s the difference between academic enrichment and tutoring?
Academic enrichment at Purple Finch goes beyond traditional tutoring. We support children’s learning in creative, engaging ways that build confidence, critical thinking and joy.
8. How do I book a session or consultation?
The best way to get started is to book a free discovery call. We’ll talk through your needs, interests and goals to see if Purple Finch is a good fit.
9. Do you offer group classes or workshops?
Yes! We offer seasonal workshops, family art sessions and group classes in community settings. Check our current offerings or follow us on social media for updates.
10. What materials do you use and do I need to provide them?
We bring all the materials needed for mobile and home visits. We work with a wide range of high-quality, sensory-rich materials like paint, charcoal, clay, wire, and pastels.
11. What is DIR/Floortime?
It is a relationship-based approach that helps children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and other developmental challenges grow in communication, connection and emotional regulation through meaningful and intentional play.
12. Why the name Purple Finch Studio?
The finch symbolizes joy, high energy and simplicity. Instead of taking the quickest and most efficient route from point A to point B, these song birds make their journey into a dance, twisting and turning throughout the air for no purpose other than enjoyment. I hope that my time with children & families offers opportunities to follow their own lead and to find their voices through creativity and play. We are all so overscheduled these days, so having a smidgen of time to just “be” for fun, joy, self-expression and connection is a gift.
